Top stars Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka powered into the third round with straight-set wins on Friday at the Miami Open 2026 but Casper Ruud crashed out in a shock upset.

World number one Alcaraz eased past Brazils young gun Joao Fonseca 6-4 6-4 grabbing early breaks in both sets and saving every break point to set up a clash with Americas Sebastian Korda.

In womens action top seed Sabalenka defending her title kicked off her campaign by beating Ann Li of the US 7-6 6-4.

Coco Gauff mounted a comeback to defeat Elisabetta Cocciaretto 3-6 6-4 6-3 while Amanda Anisimova outlasted Ajla Tomljanovic 6-1 5-7 6-4.

Americas Ethan Quinn pulled off the big upset over Ruud 6-4 7-6 and Japans Rei Sakamoto notched her biggest career win against Alexander Kovacevic with Daniil Medvedev looming next.
