New Delhi, 20 March (H.S.): The Delhi High Court directed Indian cricket team head coach and former parliamentarian Gautam Gambhir on Friday to amend his petition seeking safeguards for his personality rights, with Justice Jyoti Singh scheduling the next hearing for March 23.
Gambhir's counsel, Jai Anant Dehadrai, highlighted unauthorized dissemination of misleading content, including false claims of his resignation and fabricated videos depicting assaults on players. The suit alleges rampant misuse of his identity via AI and deepfake technology across social media accounts, platforms, and e-commerce sites, naming 16 defendants and demanding ₹2.5 crore in damages for commercial exploitation through phony resignation announcements and baseless critiques of senior cricketers.
The High Court has previously issued protective orders for celebrities' personality rights, including Baba Ramdev, Kajol, Vivek Oberoi, Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, Sunil Gavaskar, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, MP Jaya Bachchan, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Telugu actor Nagarjuna, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, and producer Karan Johar.
