New Delhi, 2 March (H.S.): India will face Afghanistan in Test cricket for only the second time in June 2026, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the upcoming series on Monday.
The tour will feature a one-off Test match followed by a three-match One-Day International series. The red-ball contest will be played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh from June 6 to June 10, marking the venue’s maiden Test match. Play will begin at 9.30 am IST.
The series will then move to the 50-over format. The first ODI will be held in Dharamshala on June 14, followed by matches in Lucknow on June 17 and Chennai on June 20. All ODI matches are scheduled to start at 1.30 pm IST.
In an official statement, the BCCI confirmed that Afghanistan will play one Test match followed by three ODIs, with venues and dates finalised as part of the international calendar.
The upcoming Test will be only the second between the two nations. Their previous encounter was held in June 2018 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, shortly after Afghanistan were granted Test status by the International Cricket Council in 2017.
Since their Test debut, Afghanistan have played 11 matches in the format and registered three victories, including wins against Ireland and Bangladesh in 2019 and Zimbabwe in January 2025.
In One-Day Internationals, India have maintained an upper hand over Afghanistan, winning three of their previous encounters, while one match ended in a tie. India will look to continue its strong record in the limited-overs format during the upcoming series.
