
Kochi, 02 March (H.S.): The Ernakulam South Police have registered a sexual assault case against young filmmaker Chidambaram, director of the recent Malayalam blockbuster Manjummel Boys, following a complaint lodged by a woman alleging misconduct.
According to police sources, the case pertains to an incident that allegedly took place in 2022. The complainant has stated that Chidambaram unlawfully entered her flat in Elamkulam and behaved inappropriately with sexual intent. Based on her statement, the police have registered a case under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with offences related to assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty and sexual harassment.
Officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is currently underway. “We have registered the case based on the complaint received. Further procedures, including questioning the accused, will follow as part of the investigation,” a senior officer with the Ernakulam South Police said.
The police have indicated that Chidambaram will be summoned for questioning in the coming days. Authorities have also not ruled out the possibility of further legal action, including arrest, depending on the findings of the investigation and the evidence gathered.
Chidambaram rose to prominence with Manjummel Boys, which emerged as one of the biggest commercial successes in Malayalam cinema in recent times, earning widespread critical acclaim and strong box office performance across South India. The case has therefore drawn significant public attention, given the filmmaker’s recent success and standing in the industry.
Police officials emphasized that the matter is being treated with seriousness and sensitivity. They reiterated that the investigation will proceed in accordance with legal procedures and that all aspects of the complaint will be thoroughly examined.
As the probe continues, no official statement has been issued by Chidambaram or his representatives regarding the allegations. Further developments are awaited as the investigation progresses.
