New Delhi, 16 March (H.S.): A staggering 13,701 teacher positions remain unfilled across Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) nationwide, the Education Ministry disclosed on Monday.

Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) reports 8,618 vacancies, while the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has 5,083. These gaps arise from new school openings, retirements, resignations, promotions, transfers, deputation to other departments, and school upgrades.

Filling these posts is a continuous process governed by KVS and NVS recruitment rules, with contract-based teachers occasionally hired to ensure uninterrupted education.

Regular recruitment is prioritized to safeguard student interests, as evidenced by consistently high academic results in recent years.Recent Notifications and FundingIn November 2025, KVS issued notifications for 8,714 direct recruitment posts and NVS for 5,045.

For FY 2025-26, KVS received budgetary support of ₹9,503.84 crore for salaries, general expenses, and capital assets.
