Inferno Near Dubai's International Airport

Dubai, 16 March (H.S.): A dramatic drone strike ignited a massive blaze near Dubai International Airport early Monday, but swift action by Dubai Civil Defence teams contained the inferno without casualties, underscoring the UAE's robust emergency response amid escalating regional tensions.

The incident, described by the Dubai Media Office as a drone-related event impacting a fuel tank in the airport's vicinity, prompted an immediate deployment of firefighting units.

Officials confirmed that responders extinguished the flames efficiently, activating comprehensive safety protocols to shield residents, workers, and aviation operations. No injuries were reported, a testament to the precision and preparedness of the civil defence apparatus.

As a precaution, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority suspended all flights at the world's busiest international airport, advising passengers to consult airlines for updates. This disruption highlights vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure, with authorities noting prior drone threats in the area.

The attack aligns with Iran's sustained campaign, launching over 1,800 missiles and drones at UAE targets since the Middle East conflict erupted, primarily intercepting most threats via advanced air defences.

Tehran has struck US-linked assets and civilian hubs like ports and oil facilities in retaliation for US-Israeli operations against its leadership, rendering the UAE the most besieged Gulf state.

UAE defence reports tally six fatalities since hostilities began—four civilians and two soldiers in a separate helicopter mishap.
