New Delhi, 28 February (H.S.):
Olympians Jinson Johnson and shooter Anish Bhanwala will headline the 63rd edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle on March 1, captivating participants from Visakhapatnam's scenic RK Beach to New Delhi's Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex.
Johnson, India's 2016 Rio Olympian and national record holder in the 1500m with a blistering 3:35.24 set in 2019, boasts an illustrious medal haul including 1500m gold at the 2018 Asian Games and silver in the 800m there, plus 1500m silver at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
In the national capital, Bhanwala—Commonwealth Games 2018 gold medalist in 25m rapid fire pistol, ISSF World Championship silver winner in Cairo 2022 (mixed team) and 2025 (individual), and 2022 Asian Games team bronze recipient—joins rising fencer Tanishka Khatri, who blazed to the quarterfinals as India's first épée fencer at those Games.
Fit India Ambassadors Naincy and wellness coach Akanksha Tagotra will amplify the Delhi festivities, organized with support from the Ministry of Home Affairs' Fire Services and Emergency Response wing.
Launched in December 2024 by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, this weekly crusade under the 2019 Fit India Movement—initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi—has swelled into a mass movement, engaging over 25 lakh citizens across 2.5 lakh locations nationwide.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sports Authority of India (SAI), and partners like Cycling Federation of India, Mallakhamb Association, Kudo Association, NaMo Cycling Clubs, Indian Rope Skipping Federation, My Bharat, and Yogasana Bharat orchestrate simultaneous events at SAI centers, National Centres of Excellence, and Khelo India facilities across all states and union territories.
Complementing the rides, yoga sessions, rope-skipping demos, Kudo martial arts displays, and cultural performances will fuse into a holistic fitness spectacle, championing #FightObesity and #PollutionKaSolution to promote cycling as sustainable, inclusive wellness.
