Kolkata, 27 February (H.S.): Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, claimed in a post on the social media platform X on Friday that the state government's attempts to halt the NIA investigation into the Beldanga communal violence case have failed once again. In his post, Adhikari stated that after failing to receive relief from the Supreme Court, the state government filed a new petition in the Calcutta High Court under his public interest litigation (Suvendu Adhikari vs. State and Others), seeking a stay on the National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigation and proceedings. However, a division bench of the High Court rejected this request. In his post, Suvendu stated that the bench of Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Partha Sarathi Sen, after hearing arguments from all parties, refused to stay the NIA investigation. He described it as an important and positive order. Adhikari wrote that this decision will help reduce communal tension in Murshidabad and surrounding districts. He expressed hope that a fair and fearless investigation will reveal the truth and ensure strict action against the culprits. The Leader of the Opposition described this order as a victory for the rule of law and said that it is an important step towards restoring law and order and communal harmony in the state.
