Guwahati, 27 February (HS): With the objective of establishing direct contact with people across every region of Assam, the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch the “Jan Ashirwad Yatra” under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP President Dilip Saikia. The yatra will commence from the Gupteshwar Temple under the Dhekiajuli Legislative Assembly constituency.
According to party leaders, the programme has been designed to connect with one lakh people daily. The initial phase of the yatra has been scheduled for eight days and will continue till March 9. Through the campaign, the developmental and welfare initiatives of both the Central and State Governments will be highlighted, while seeking the blessings of the people of Assam ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s state headquarters on Friday, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, party spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami said that while the BJP has unitedly embarked on its election campaign with organisational strength, the Congress and other opposition parties are engaged in internal conflicts over alliance issues.
He alleged that Akhil Gogoi is making videos while staying in resorts, Lurinjyoti Gogoi has advised the Congress to take decisions while lying in bed, and there are reports of Gaurav Gogoi organising an Iftar at the Congress office.
Criticising the Congress party’s “Samay Parivartan Yatra,” the spokesperson stated that instead of strengthening the party, the campaign has further weakened and marginalised it.-----------
