Melagon, 27 Feb (HS): Malegaon Municipal Commissioner

suspended Superentending Engineer Abhijit Pawar in connection with Namaj prayer

at his office. Action against others is expected soon.

Controversies

grip Malegaon Municipal Corporation. A few days ago debate arose following

installatio of Tipu Sultan’s picture in Deputy Mayor’s chamber. Later Kirit

Somayya raised the issue of banning Muslim women’s entry into Malegaon. This

was followed by allowing Namaj in Pawar’s chamber.

Initially

people’s complaints relating to non-functional street lights was neglected by

Pawar. Leaving the meeting with employees Pawar himself left the premises. The

employees from the Muslim community started Namaj recital in his chamber only,

the video of which went viral. Hnidu organisations then started reciting Hanuman

Chalisa in the premises, which further flared up the tension.

A

request against the officers who allowed Namaj in the office premises was

forwarded to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Taking

cognizance of the issue Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Jadhav suspended

Abhijit Pawar. An offence against seven others has also been registered by the

police.

The suspension

order was issued on Friday. Action against more officials is likely to be

initiated.
