Guwahati, 27 February (HS): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), in close coordination with the Engineering Department, conducted extensive anti-encroachment drives at multiple locations under its jurisdiction during a two-day campaign in February 2026. The initiative is part of NFR’s continued efforts to safeguard railway land, strengthen infrastructure security and ensure safe train operations.
In West Bengal, the drives were carried out between Nagrakata railway station and Chalsa railway station in and in the yard area of Dalgaon railway station. Similar eviction operations were undertaken in Assam near Mariani railway station in Jorhat district and along the stretch between Guwahati railway station and Kamakhya railway station in Kamrup (Metro) district.
Altogether, 37 unauthorized structures were dismantled and six cement pillars removed from railway land during the drive. A major highlight was the large-scale eviction drive between Guwahati and Kamakhya stations, where 35 unauthorized structures were cleared. The clearance is considered one of the most significant anti-encroachment actions in the section and is expected to improve track visibility, enhance safety standards and prevent future encroachments along this crucial corridor.
Northeast Frontier Railway reaffirmed its commitment to protecting railway property and maintaining a safe, secure and obstruction-free environment for passengers and train operations. The coordinated efforts of the RPF and the Engineering Department are also aimed at curbing anti-social activities along railway tracks. NFR has urged the public to refrain from unauthorized occupation of railway land and to cooperate in maintaining railway safety and security.----------
