Ballia,
27 Feb (HS): Police have filed charges against five people for allegedly
attempting to run over a district mining officer with a car during an
enforcement drive in Ballia, authorities said on Friday. On Thursday, District
Mining Officer Saurabh Kumar filed a FIR at Ballia Kotwali Police Station
against Kamlesh Yadav, Sonu Yadav, Rahul Verma, Ashutosh, and an unnamed
individual. The five were charged under Sections 3 (common purpose), 109
(attempt to kill), and 221 (obstructing a public officer) of the Bharatiya
Nyaya Sanhita.
According
to the police, Kumar said in his complaint that on February 25 at about 3 a.m.,
he was driving in a government vehicle towards Mahavir Ghat on the Greenfield
Expressway for an enforcement drive.
While
on his way, a Maruti Swift Dzire automobile allegedly began shadowing him,
raising suspicion. When he motioned to the driver to halt, the automobile
reportedly sped towards him with the intent to murder, according to the
complaint. Kumar said that he moved aside to defend himself, but the driver
crashed into and damaged his official vehicle. Following the complaint, the
Kotwali in-charge requested that the outpost in charge of Bichla Ghat undertake
an investigation. On Thursday, the outpost in charge submitted a report
verifying the event, following which an investigation was opened. On Friday,
Kotwali in-charge Kshitij Tripathi stated that attempts are on to apprehend the
culprits.
