Youth Congress Erupts in Protest Over Chib's Arrest, Over 20 Leaders Detained

New Delhi, 26 February (H.S.): Youth Congress staged a fierce demonstration on Thursday against the arrest of its president, Uday Bhanu Chib, resulting in the police detaining more than 20 leaders attempting to breach barricades.Among those taken into custody were prominent figures including Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav, former Youth Congress President B.V. Srinivas, and Odisha in-charge Ajay Kumar Lallu. All were loaded into buses and transported to nearby police stations.

Inside the Youth Congress headquarters, protesters—including Congress media head Pawan Khera and leader Udit Raj—denounced Chib's arrest as a blatant violation of democratic rights, raising slogans in unison.

Barricades had been erected outside the headquarters in anticipation of unrest. Several activists surged out, climbing over barriers to spill onto the streets, where leaders like Srinivas, Yadav, and Lallu staged a dramatic sit-in by lying down in defiance.

Notably, the arrests stem from Youth Congress workers' semi-nude protest at the AI Summit held in Delhi from February 16-21. Police have branded Chib the mastermind and secured four days of police custody following his interrogation.
