New Delhi, 25 February (H.S.): The gross domestic product (GDP) figures for the third quarter (October-December) of the current fiscal year 2025-26 will be released on February 27. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation will henceforth issue GDP data based on a new series.

Official sources stated today that the central government is adopting a new GDP computation methodology from February 27. The government has revised the base year from 2011-12 to 2022-23, under which GDP figures will be published. Following the consumer price index (CPI)-based retail inflation metrics, the base year for GDP data will be 2022-23, employing 'double deflation' and 500-600 items for improved accuracy.

Moreover, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation may release the second advance estimates for fiscal year 2025-26 on February 27. These will incorporate fresh data and revisions, potentially altering all prior figures for the first and second quarters to conform to the new base year 2022-23.

It is noteworthy that, according to the National Statistical Office's (NSO) first advance estimates last month, real GDP growth for the current fiscal year 2025-26 is projected at 7.4 percent, compared to 6.5 percent in the previous fiscal year 2024-25.

The State Bank of India (SBI), in its latest report issued on Tuesday, estimates real GDP growth for the third quarter of the current fiscal year 2026-27 to hover around 8.1 percent.
