Guwahati, 25 February (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated the ₹140-crore Lovlina Borgohain Stadium in Lakhimpur, named after Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain.

At a press conference at the BJP state headquarters, party spokesperson Kalyan Gogoi said the stadium will boost sports infrastructure in North Assam. He added that since 2021, the state has taken up construction of full-fledged stadiums in 11 districts and mini stadiums in 40 Assembly constituencies.

The government has also appointed leading athletes including Hima Das and Jayanta Talukdar to key posts in the police department and provided jobs to 370 medal-winning sportspersons between 2021 and 2025.-----------
