New Delhi, 24 February (H.S.): The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved raw jute (TD-3 grade) Minimum Support Price (MSP) at ₹5,925 per quintal for marketing season 2026-27—₹275 hike from prior year—during its first meeting at the new 'Seva Teerth' complex.
I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision ensures 61.8% return over all-India weighted production costs, aligning with Budget 2018-19's 1.5x cost mandate. MSP rocketed from ₹2,400 (2014-15) to ₹5,925 (2.47x increase); payouts soared from ₹441 crore (2004-14) to ₹1,342 crore (2014-26).
Jute Corporation of India remains nodal agency for price support operations, with Centre bearing any losses—securing jute growers in West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, and beyond against market volatility.
