Miami, 08 November (H.S.): Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has achieved another remarkable milestone by winning the Major League Soccer (MLS) Golden Boot for the second consecutive season. The Inter Miami CF captain scored 26 goals during the 2026 regular season, becoming the first player in MLS history to claim the award in successive seasons.

In addition to his 26 goals, Messi registered 17 assists, taking his total goal contributions to 43 for the season. He finished ahead of FC Dallas striker Petar Musa, who scored 22 goals, and Nashville SC forward Sam Surridge, who netted 21. Vancouver Whitecaps forward Brian White finished fourth with 20 goals.

Messi was unable to find the net in Inter Miami's final regular-season fixture against Charlotte FC on Saturday, which ended in a 3-3 draw. Playing at home, Miami had established a commanding 3-0 lead before Charlotte fought back to level the score. However, the result did not affect Messi's position at the top of the Golden Boot standings.

According to MLS, Messi has become the first player to win the Golden Boot in consecutive seasons. He is also only the sixth player in league history to claim the award twice. The previous multiple winners are Bradley Wright-Phillips (2014 and 2016), Chris Wondolowski (2010 and 2012), Jeff Cunningham (2006 and 2009), Taylor Twellman (2002 and 2005) and Preki (1997 and 2003).
