Chennai, 07 Nov (H.S.):
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay, who had announced his retirement from cinema to pursue politics, is reportedly set to return before the camera for a government advertisement.
Reports from the Tamil film industry suggest that Vijay will feature in a promotional campaign being planned by the Tamil Nadu government, with noted filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon likely to direct the project.
However, neither the state government nor the Chief Minister’s Office has officially confirmed the development.
Sources indicate that filming could begin towards the end of November or in early December. The subject of the advertisement, the department commissioning it and other production details remain undisclosed.
Vijay, among Tamil cinema’s most popular actors, entered active politics after launching Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. His party subsequently emerged victorious in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, enabling him to assume office as Chief Minister.
Ahead of the elections, Vijay had declared that Jana Nayagan would be his final film, signalling his decision to end a successful acting career and concentrate entirely on public life.
His announcement had disappointed thousands of admirers who hoped to see him continue appearing on the silver screen.
The latest reports have therefore generated considerable interest among his supporters, although appearing in a government advertisement would not necessarily indicate a return to commercial cinema.
The possible involvement of Gautham Vasudev Menon has added to the anticipation surrounding the proposed production.
Political observers say the advertisement could provide the government with an opportunity to communicate its programmes and welfare initiatives through the Chief Minister’s established public appeal.
With no formal announcement yet, the reported project remains speculative, and further clarity is expected from the government in the coming weeks.
