Hooghly, 07 November (H.S.): A shocking incident has been reported from a private nursing home located in Ward No. 15 of Uttarpara Municipality, where a newborn baby was allegedly thrown out of a window shortly after birth. The incident triggered concern among local residents, and police have initiated an investigation.

As per information, a 16-year-old minor girl was admitted to the nursing home late on Friday night, reportedly around 1 AM, with complaints of abdominal pain. Hospital sources said that the girl is a resident of Howrah. Her family claimed that they were unaware of her pregnancy and had brought her to the nursing home only because she was experiencing stomach pain.

The girl's mother said, Believe us, we knew nothing about this. She was complaining of stomach pain, so we admitted her to the hospital.

According to the nursing home authorities, the girl went to the bathroom on her own on Saturday morning. A local youth, who was working nearby, said he suddenly heard a loud thud, as if something had fallen from above. On reaching the spot, he found a newborn baby lying there. He immediately alerted others. A nurse from the nursing home subsequently came out and hurriedly took the baby inside.

Dr. Sucheta Mukhopadhyay, a doctor associated with the nursing home, stated that the minor had been admitted at around 1 AM on Friday night with abdominal pain. Blood tests were conducted on Saturday morning. Despite experiencing increased pain, the girl reportedly walked to the bathroom on her own, where she delivered the baby. The doctor alleged that the girl subsequently threw the newborn out of the window in an attempt to conceal her pregnancy.

Local residents described the incident as a serious offence and urged the administration to take appropriate action.

Police have started investigating the incident.
