New Delhi, 07 November (H.S.): Amid rising air pollution levels across Delhi-NCR, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has taken a stringent stance on road dust pollution in Gurugram. The commission has authorised the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) Commissioner to file a complaint before the competent Judicial Magistrate against officials found negligent in implementing dust-control measures.
The commission has directed the civic body to initiate legal proceedings against Executive Engineer Sunder Shyoran and other officials found responsible for serious lapses in road sweeping and non-compliance with its directions.
According to the commission, inspections of 125 road stretches conducted on December 26, 2025, revealed high levels of dust on 34 stretches and moderate dust levels on 58. Only four stretches were found to be free of dust.
During an inspection conducted on October 14, 2026, covering 52 road stretches spanning approximately 104 km, a total of 258 violations were recorded. Of these, 174 were attributed to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, while the remaining 84 were linked to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
As of October 13, 2026, a total of 1,135 public complaints had been received against the municipal corporation and 183 against the development authority. Heaps of construction debris and garbage were also found along roads in Sectors 49, 57, 70, 73, 74 and 75.
During a hearing on November 3, the municipal corporation informed the commission that its mechanical road-sweeping machines were currently operating at only 50–60 per cent of their capacity. It assured the commission that their operational capacity would be increased to 80 per cent by mid-November.
The civic body also informed the commission that a recommendation had been made to issue a chargesheet against Executive Engineer Sunder Shyoran under the Haryana Civil Services Rules.
However, the commission observed that these assurances related to future action and did not absolve the authorities of their past negligence. It directed the municipal corporation to file a complaint before the court and submit an Action Taken Report to the commission, along with all relevant documents, including inspection reports, photographs and road-sweeping records.
