Thiruvananthapuram, 06 Nov (HS.):The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across several parts of Kerala on Friday, issuing yellow alerts for eight districts as thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to continue in the state over the next few days.
Yellow alerts have been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts, while the existing green alerts in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Kannur have been upgraded to yellow following revised weather assessments.
The IMD said isolated areas in these districts could experience heavy rainfall, with precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
The weather agency has also warned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated locations across Kerala until November 9.
According to the latest forecast, parts of Palakkad district could experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are likely to receive light rainfall.
The revised alerts indicate the possibility of increased rainfall activity in southern and central Kerala, particularly in districts where the warning level has been upgraded.
A yellow alert indicates the need for caution and preparedness, especially in areas vulnerable to waterlogging, localised flooding and weather-related disruptions.
Residents have been advised to remain vigilant during thunderstorms and avoid unnecessary exposure to lightning and strong winds.
People travelling through areas experiencing heavy rainfall should exercise caution, particularly on roads vulnerable to waterlogging and reduced visibility.
The IMD is expected to continue monitoring weather conditions and issue updated forecasts and warnings as rainfall activity develops across the state over the coming days.
