Palam, 06 November (H.S.): An unbeaten century by Yash Dhull enabled Delhi to secure a draw against Services in their Elite Group C Ranji Trophy encounter on Thursday. Chasing a challenging target of 320 runs at the Air Force Complex Ground in Palam, Delhi finished their second innings at 168 for four in 38 overs.
Dhull remained unbeaten on 104 off 104 balls, striking 11 boundaries and two sixes. His innings, which combined composure with aggression, played a decisive role in pulling Delhi out of a difficult position and ensuring that the contest ended in a draw. He brought up his century in 102 balls, registering his first hundred of the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.
At one stage, Delhi were under pressure at 119 for four while pursuing the target. Just before the tea interval, Ayush Doseja was dismissed for 14. Dhull then took responsibility for holding one end together and ensured that the Services bowlers made no further inroads. Batting with sound judgement, he negotiated the remaining overs and guided his team to safety.
Earlier, Services had declared their second innings at 397 for nine. Captain Rajat Paliwal scored 116, registering his second consecutive century in the match, while Mohit Ahlawat produced an impressive knock of 142. Their contributions enabled Services to set Delhi a target of 320 runs.
Although Delhi could not reach the target, they secured three points on the basis of their first-innings lead. Dhull’s unbeaten century emerged as the most significant highlight of the contest, demonstrating his ability to handle pressure and shoulder responsibility when his team needed him.
The Ranji Trophy will now go on a break owing to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Dhull will look to carry this form and confidence into the upcoming fixtures when the competition resumes.
