New Delhi, 06 November (H.S.): On the fifth day of its six-day special intensive cleanliness drive, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) carried out targeted sanitation operations on Friday across schools, colleges, universities, hospitals, government offices and other major institutional areas. The campaign, being conducted across all 12 MCD zones, focused particularly on cleaning approach roads, footpaths, central verges, green belts and surrounding areas of educational institutions.

In the South Zone, cleanliness operations were undertaken around colleges in South Campus, Vasant Vihar, near Satya Narayan Temple on Tigri’s MB Road, BICIT Camp and Heritage School. Around 250 sanitation workers were deployed for the drive, supported by 23 tipper trucks and 11 water tankers. Approximately 35 kilometres of roads were cleaned, while nearly eight metric tonnes of dust and three metric tonnes of garbage and waste were removed from central verges, green belts, footpaths and roadside areas. Water tankers were also used to wash around 35 kilometres of roads.

In the East Zone, the drive covered Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Ward No. 207 in Vishwas Nagar and the areas surrounding Arunoday Public School. In the North-East Zone, special cleaning operations were carried out at the ITI campus in Vivek Vihar and in front of the World Class Skill Centre. Students also participated actively in the initiative. To strengthen sanitation arrangements along major roads, 2,235 sanitation workers were deployed. They were supported by three mechanised road-sweeping machines, four jetting-cum-sprinkler machines, 16 auto-tippers and 12 e-rickshaws.

In the Rohini Zone, special cleaning operations were undertaken on roads surrounding JIMS College. In the South-West Zone, sanitation work at identified hotspots in Dwarka was inspected. The inspection covered the cleanliness of open grounds maintained by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), open garbage collection points and fixed compactor transfer stations operated by concessionaires. The work carried out by sanitary inspectors and the teams concerned was also reviewed. Officials said that appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the rules wherever irregularities were found during the inspection.

In the Old Delhi Zone, officials inspected the cleanliness drive along DDU Marg and within the campus of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women. Special sanitation activities were also undertaken in Budh Nagar.

According to the MCD, the objective of the campaign is to improve sanitation arrangements in educational and institutional areas and ensure a clean and healthy environment around educational establishments. The civic body has appealed to residents, students and institutions to help maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and cooperate in ensuring the proper management and disposal of waste.

The six-day campaign forms part of the MCD’s wider effort to strengthen sanitation across all 12 municipal zones.
