New Delhi, 06 November (H.S.): The Rouse Avenue Court has dismissed a petition seeking the registration of a complaint against Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over her alleged remarks at a public programme in which she referred to government officials as Hanuman. The order was passed by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar. The court had reserved its decision on October 29.

The petition was filed by Ram Niwas Sharma. During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel, Sanjeet Kumar, submitted that on September 23, 2025, at the Kashmere Gate bus terminal, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had referred to Delhi government officials and employees as Hanuman during a programme marking the launch of the Delhi Transport Corporation’s (DTC) interstate bus service from Delhi to Baraut in Uttar Pradesh.

Sanjeet Kumar argued that Gupta had remarked that government officials and employees, whom she compared to Hanuman, remembered their strength and worked diligently only when their “tails caught fire”.

A large number of Delhi government officials, employees and members of the public were present at the event. The petition further stated that Gupta’s remarks had also been published by several media organisations.

The petition was filed under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). It sought directions for action against Rekha Gupta under Section 223 of the BNSS.
