Bhubaneswar, 06 November (H.S.): The queue-based darshan system, known as Dhadi Darshan, will be introduced at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri before the New Year, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced on Friday.

The Minister said the new arrangement is likely to be implemented after the holy Kartik month, with preparations for its introduction in the final stage.

Under the proposed system, eight ramps will be installed to facilitate the simultaneous movement of devotees for darshan. The arrangement is expected to accommodate around 10,000 devotees per hour. The queue complex will be developed in the space between the Garuda Stambha and the Bahara Katha (outer wooden barricade).

Explaining the mechanism, Harichandan said the ramps would operate on a collapsible bridge model. They will be opened during darshan hours and closed after the completion of the temple rituals. The system has been designed with technical assistance from IIT Bhubaneswar.

The Minister further said that the Chhatisha Nijog, the representative body of servitors, and the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee would soon review the proposed arrangements. The system will be implemented after receiving their approval.

The new arrangement is aimed at streamlining the movement of devotees and facilitating smoother darshan at the 12th-century shrine, particularly during periods of heavy footfall.
