Kolkata, 05 November (H.S.) : Sensation prevailed in the Sanapukur area of Basirhat on Thursday morning following the mysterious death of an elderly couple. The deceased have been identified as Sudev Goswami (60) and Soma Goswami (55). While the husband was found hanging from the balcony of their house, the wife's lifeless body was recovered from the bed.

The tragic incident came to light on Thursday morning when the couple's daughter woke up and discovered her father hanging with a noose around his neck in the balcony. Upon rushing inside the room, she found her mother lying entirely motionless and cold on the bed. Terrified by the grim discovery, the panicked daughter immediately contacted her relatives, who subsequently alerted the authorities at the Basirhat Police Station.

The couple resided in Ward No. 6 of the Sanapukur area under the jurisdiction of the Basirhat Police Station. Upon receiving the information, a police team promptly reached the spot, recovered the bodies, and sent them for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact sequence of events.

While preliminary observations by the police suggest that Sudev Goswami might have died by suicide, the actual cause of Soma Goswami's death remains highly suspicious and unclear. The police have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine whether the tragic incident was the fallout of severe family disputes, acute financial distress, or if there is any other underlying foul play involved. Investigating officers stated that the exact cause of death for both individuals will only be confirmed once the detailed autopsy reports are available.
