Pravati Parida Reviews Preparations for Eco Retreats at Eight Odisha Destinations

Bhubaneswar, 05 November (H.S.): Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida on Thursday reviewed preparations for the upcoming Eco Retreats at eight destinations across Odisha, stressing local employment, tourist safety and quality infrastructure.

Chairing a review meeting at Tourism Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, Parida directed officials to ensure adequate employment opportunities for local youth and active participation of communities in tourism-related activities.

She emphasised reliable power supply, proper road connectivity and supporting infrastructure at all identified locations to ensure smooth operations and a comfortable experience for visitors.

Highlighting the potential of adventure tourism, the Deputy Chief Minister called for introducing adventure sports and recreational activities wherever feasible. She also stressed showcasing Odisha's cultural heritage through local art, traditions and cultural programmes, while engaging artisans, craftsmen and local entrepreneurs to strengthen the rural economy.

On tourist safety, she directed officials to ensure CCTV surveillance, adequate security arrangements and the availability of paramedics and basic healthcare facilities at all Eco Retreat sites.

The Eco Retreats will be organised at eight locations: Konark, Sonapur Beach, Daringbadi, Talamali, Kolab, Hirakud, Satkosia and Kusumbandh. Talamali, Kolab and Kusumbandh are new destinations being added to the initiative.

Parida said Eco Retreats should go beyond accommodation facilities and offer comprehensive tourism experiences highlighting Odisha's natural beauty, cultural identity and adventure potential while generating livelihood opportunities for local communities.

Tourism Commissioner-cum-Secretary Balwant Singh, Special Secretary Lipsa Das, senior departmental officials, representatives of the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC), technical experts and tourism stakeholders attended the meeting.
