Darrang (Assam), 04 November (HS): A man was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants at Jayantipur in the Sipajhar area of Assam's Darrang district on Tuesday night, triggering panic and grief in the locality.

The deceased has been identified as Roz Ali, a resident of Bishnupur.

According to information, local residents found Roz Ali lying in a pool of blood at Boro Chuba in Jayantipur. He had sustained multiple injuries inflicted with a sharp weapon. His bicycle, which he used for commuting, was also found lying near the spot.

Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation. The identity of the assailants and the motive behind the murder are yet to be established.

Meanwhile, local residents have alleged that an illegal country liquor outlet has been operating in the area for a long time. However, no link between the alleged illegal liquor den and the murder has been established so far.

Roz Ali is survived by two children. The brutal killing has plunged his family into grief, while residents of the area have expressed concern over the incident.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.-----------
