New Delhi, 04 November (H.S.): Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi conducted a surprise inspection of the Municipal Primary School in B-2, Sultanpuri, in the North-West Zone on Wednesday to assess the facilities and services being provided to students in municipal schools. Observing students wandering around the school premises without supervision, he expressed displeasure over the lack of discipline and also reviewed the attendance of teachers.

During the inspection, the Mayor assessed the facilities available at the school and voiced serious concern over the poor sanitation and cleanliness arrangements. He immediately summoned the Deputy Commissioner of the concerned zone and the Deputy Education Officer, directing them to ensure accountability for the lapses. He also instructed the authorities to issue a show-cause notice to the school principal.

As part of his assessment of the facilities, Wahi drank the drinking water provided to students and sampled the mid-day meal served at the school.

The Mayor also interacted with the students and expressed satisfaction with their responses and enthusiasm for learning. He said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was working in mission mode to improve the functioning of its schools and remained committed to enhancing student facilities and the quality of education.

He further noted that a few days ago, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had transferred funds for school uniforms directly into the bank accounts of students enrolled in MCD schools through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.

Emphasising the civic body's priorities, Wahi said that ensuring a better future for children, providing them with a safe learning environment and delivering quality education remained the MCD's foremost responsibilities. He added that inspections would continue regularly to improve facilities and administrative arrangements across municipal schools.
