Hooghly, 04 November (H.S.): Tension prevailed at the Khanakul-I Block Development Office on Wednesday as members of the BJP Mahila Morcha staged a protest against Block Development Officer (BDO) Aditi Ganguly. The protestors surrounded the BDO and raised slogans, including “Jai Shri Ram” and “Remove the TMC BDO”.
The demonstration was led by the BJP Mahila Morcha. Piyali Jana, president of the BJP's Khanakul-5 organisational mandal, levelled several allegations against BDO Aditi Ganguly. She alleged that developmental activities in Khanakul-I block had virtually come to a standstill and that tenders for various projects were not being issued, hampering development in the area.
Jana further alleged that attempts were being made to suppress complaints of corruption involving self-help groups during the previous government's tenure. She also accused the BDO of misbehaving with block employees and elected BJP representatives. The protestors additionally alleged that a woman Panchayat Samiti member belonging to the BJP had also been treated improperly by the BDO.
BJP leaders claimed that the BDO's functioning had created difficulties in administrative services and the implementation of development projects. They alleged that the block administration was still following the political practices of the previous Trinamool Congress government.
Raising these allegations, BJP Mahila Morcha leaders, workers and supporters gathered at the BDO office and staged a demonstration. At one point, the BDO was surrounded by the protestors amid heated sloganeering.
However, BDO Aditi Ganguly declined to comment on the allegations levelled by the BJP. No official response to the charges was available at the time of reporting.
