Srinagar, Nov 04 (HS): Students of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Awantipora argued over the damage drugs do to individuals, families and society at a debate competition on the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” theme, organised by Awantipora Police at the university.
Police said the event was meant to make young people aware of the dangers of substance abuse, encourage them to think critically about it and motivate them to become ambassadors of the campaign.
Students spoke on the harmful effects of drug abuse and on why society must act together to root out the problem, according to police.
Senior officers of Police District Awantipora, the Director of the university’s Centre for Good Governance and Policy Analysis and faculty members attended. The top three speakers received cash prizes and certificates.
Police said they would continue to hold such programmes in educational institutions and involve young people, institutions and the public in the fight against drug abuse.
