Hooghly, 03 November (H.S.): The Food Safety Department, in coordination with Rishra Municipality, conducted an inspection drive on Tuesday to assess the quality and safety of edible oil produced at local oil mills. During the operation, officials inspected Shubham Oil Mill, located at P.C. Daw Street in Rishra.
Food Safety Department officials, accompanied by Asitav Ganguly, Nodal Officer of Rishra Municipality, visited the mill and examined its premises and operations. Personnel from Rishra Police Station were also present during the inspection.
The municipality claimed that the mill management had previously been served notices on three occasions but had failed to comply with the instructions. Asitav Ganguly said that a closure notice would now be issued to the mill. However, the management may be allowed to reopen the unit if it complies with the municipality's directions and makes the necessary arrangements.
Officials also collected a sample of the oil produced at the mill and will send it to a laboratory for testing. The quality and safety of the oil can be determined only after the test report is received.
The authorities said the main objective of the inspection was to ensure that the edible oil manufactured at the mill is safe for public consumption and does not pose a risk to people's health.
