Bhubaneswar, 03 November (H.S.): Students from five government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and a government engineering institution have joined the repair and restoration drive in cyclone-hit Ganjam district, extending technical support to restore damaged water supply systems and electrical infrastructure, officials said on Tuesday.
The students have already repaired damaged electrical equipment at Asika Sub-Divisional Hospital, helping restore essential services disrupted by Cyclone Arnab.
Students from Government ITIs at Berhampur, Sheragada, Purusottampur, Hinjilicut and Chhatrapur, along with students of Uma Charan Patnaik Engineering School, Berhampur, are actively participating in the restoration operations.
They are carrying out repairs to damaged electrical equipment, water pumps and water supply systems at various locations across the district to facilitate the early restoration of normal services in cyclone-affected areas.
The repair and restoration activities are being conducted under the direct supervision of the district administration. Each student team has been assigned a designated supervisor to provide technical guidance and coordinate the work.
The initiative has enabled students to put their technical knowledge and practical training to use in addressing the immediate needs of communities affected by the cyclone.
Their participation also underscores the important role of technical educational institutions in disaster response, rehabilitation and restoration efforts, while providing students with valuable hands-on experience in community service.
