Mumbai, 03 November (H.S.): A significant development has emerged regarding the sequel to the 2006 comedy film ‘Malamaal Weekly’, with its original director, Priyadarshan, distancing himself from the project. Actor Riteish Deshmukh will also not be part of the upcoming sequel.
Earlier reports had suggested that the sequel would feature a mix of fresh faces and actors from the original film, with Riteish's return reportedly considered almost certain. However, the departure of both Priyadarshan and Riteish is now likely to bring changes to the film's plans.
According to reports, Priyadarshan himself has confirmed that he will not direct the sequel. “I am not doing it. I have decided not to do any sequels,” he said. His statement makes it clear that he will not return to direct the next instalment of his popular comedy film. Meanwhile, Riteish Deshmukh is also no longer expected to be associated with the project.
According to reports, ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ may feature Raveena Tandon, Parineeti Chopra, Esha Deol, Elvish Yadav and Shilpa Shirodkar. There is also speculation that Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav, who appeared in the original film, may reprise their roles. These actors are reportedly said to have given their verbal consent.
The directorial responsibility for the sequel has reportedly been entrusted to Amit Joshi, who previously served as co-director of ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’.
