ED Searches Four Premises in Srinagar in Terror Financing Probe

Srinagar, Nov 3 (HS): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at four locations in Srinagar on Tuesday as part of an investigation into alleged terror financing, according to sources.

The probe relates to allegations that Umar Adil Dar worked as an Over Ground Worker (OGW), a term used for people accused of giving logistical or financial support to militants, for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and was involved in activities linked to the group, sources said.

Dar was earlier caught along with associates while allegedly carrying a large amount of cash and incriminating material linked to the outfit, they said. They added that he had previously spent around four years in jail over alleged involvement in separatist and anti-India activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the sources, the searches are meant to trace suspected proceeds of crime, identify financial networks and funding channels, examine alleged links with handlers across the border, and collect more evidence in the case. Further details are awaited, as the searches were still going on.

Police had arrested Dar and two others in Srinagar in February 2023, and recovered ₹31.65 lakh in cash, a mobile phone and pages of LeT letterhead from a bag he was carrying, according to a police statement at the time.
