Agartala, 03 November (H.S.): Tripura Police have arrested eight persons in
connection with Monday’s violent confrontation between Border Security Force
(BSF) personnel and local residents at Ashabari in Boxanagar, Sepahijala
district, with Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha warning that those involved
in attacking security personnel would face strict legal action.
Confirming the arrests on Tuesday, Saha said the government
would not tolerate attacks on personnel deployed to protect the country's
borders and maintain security. He asserted that those responsible for the
violence would be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
The incident has brought renewed attention to tensions
between border security forces and residents in villages along the
India-Bangladesh international boundary.
BSF personnel are deployed in the region to prevent
cross-border smuggling, illegal movement and other trans-border activities,
often requiring close interaction with local communities.
Boxanagar, located in Sepahijala district, lies close to the
India-Bangladesh border and has witnessed security-related concerns arising
from its sensitive geographical location.
Police are investigating the circumstances leading to
Monday's violence. Further details regarding the sequence of events and the
specific allegations against those arrested are awaited.
