New Delhi, 03 November (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused the Congress and other Opposition parties of attempting to foment disorder in the country, questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks on regime change and alleged violent protests. The party asserted that while India was strengthening its position on the global stage under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a section of the Opposition was pursuing politics that challenged constitutional norms and democratic institutions.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, party national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said Indian society had unwavering faith in the Constitution and the democratic system, and that violent protests were inconsistent with the country's democratic traditions.
He alleged that the Opposition, under Rahul Gandhi's leadership, was pursuing a political approach that could undermine the democratic framework. Such thinking, he said, was contrary to national interests and democratic values.
Referring to the BJP's 'Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy' campaign,Gaurav Bhatia said the initiative was aimed at raising a voice against anarchy and the politics of violent protests in the country. He noted that BJP national president Nitin Nabin had also participated in a march organised as part of the campaign. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, too, had led a march attended by a large number of people.
To substantiate his allegations, the BJP spokesperson referred to a sting operation conducted by a television news channel. He claimed that the operation had exposed the alleged behind-the-scenes activities and strategies of certain individuals associated with the Opposition. According to him, these revelations offered an insight into the Opposition's political approach and its underlying intentions.
Gaurav Bhatia said the sting operation had brought several aspects to light. First, he alleged that Rahul Gandhi favoured what he described as a destructive model and had no reservations about the use of violence. Second, he accused the Opposition of pursuing what he termed a low-level, distasteful and deplorable strategy of using women at the forefront of such activities.
The BJP spokesperson further remarked that the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and other Opposition parties appeared increasingly inclined towards what he described as an anarchic, toolkit-driven model of protest.
Questioning their approach, Gaurav Bhatia asked why the Opposition could not organise positive, peaceful and constructive demonstrations without resorting to violence. He said protests should be conducted at designated venues after obtaining the necessary administrative permissions, while respecting the law and democratic conventions.
