London, 02 November (H.S.): The ninth round of the 2026-27 English Premier League season produced a series of notable milestones and record-breaking performances, with Arsenal securing a historic 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield to register their first win at the venue since 2012. Brighton & Hove Albion also made history by defeating Manchester City on their home turf for the first time, while Chelsea forward Cole Palmer reached the landmark of 50 Premier League goals. Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, underlined their attacking dominance by registering 34 shots against Crystal Palace.
Arsenal brought an end to their long wait for a league victory at Anfield with a 1-0 win over Liverpool, their first at the ground since 2012. The result also ended a run of 16 consecutive matches without a win at Liverpool's home stadium.
With 24 points from nine matches, Arsenal have made an impressive start to the campaign. No Premier League club had accumulated as many points after the opening nine fixtures since the 2022-23 season, when Arsenal themselves achieved the same feat.
Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have won 81.1 per cent of their Premier League matches in which they have scored the opening goal. Only teams managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have recorded higher winning percentages in this regard.
### Kai Havertz Becomes Premier League's Highest-Scoring German
Arsenal forward Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal against Liverpool, taking his Premier League tally to 46 and becoming the highest-scoring German player in the competition's history. He moved past former Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who had scored 45 Premier League goals.
Havertz had also scored against Liverpool at Anfield while representing Chelsea in August 2021, when his goal gave the London club a 1-0 lead.
Brighton & Hove Albion created history with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, recording their first-ever win away to City in 18 attempts.
Despite registering 21 shots, Manchester City failed to find the net. It was the first time in 23 Premier League home matches that City had been unable to score at the Etihad.
Brighton have now won five of their last six league matches, keeping clean sheets in all five victories. With six clean sheets this season, they have the highest tally among all Premier League clubs.
Tottenham Hotspur continued their revival with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace, securing their third consecutive Premier League win. It was the first time since February 2025 that Tottenham had recorded three successive victories in the competition.
Tottenham dominated proceedings, registering 34 shots compared with just two by Palace. It was their highest shot tally in a Premier League match since February 2016.
Among centre-backs, only Virgil van Dijk has scored more goals than Jan Paul van Hecke since the beginning of last season. Van Dijk has found the net six times during that period, compared with five goals for Van Hecke.
Chelsea defeated Manchester United 2-0, with Cole Palmer reaching the milestone of 50 Premier League goals for the club. He achieved the feat in his 105th appearance.
Only two players have reached 50 goals for Chelsea in fewer appearances in the Premier League: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who took 84 matches, and Diego Costa, who achieved the milestone in 85.
Manchester United, meanwhile, continued to struggle, extending their winless run across all competitions to nine matches. During this period, they have recorded three draws and suffered six defeats. It is the first time since September 1984 that the club have gone through such an extended spell without a victory.
AFC Bournemouth registered their third consecutive Premier League victory with a 2-0 win over Leeds United. The team have kept clean sheets in all three matches during this winning run.
Bournemouth forward Evanilson has scored in four successive league appearances, marking the longest scoring streak of his Premier League career. He also became the first Brazilian player since Raphinha in 2021 to score in a Premier League match on Halloween.
Brentford marked their 100th home Premier League appearance with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. The club have scored the opening goal in eight of their last nine league matches. Forest, by contrast, have failed to score in five of their nine league fixtures this season.
Coventry City defeated Sunderland 3-1, scoring twice from outside the penalty area. It was the first time since December 1999 that Coventry had scored two goals from outside the box in a Premier League match.
Tatsuhiro Sakamoto also opened his Premier League account, becoming the first Asian player to score for Coventry in the competition.
Sunderland have collected just five points from their opening nine matches, their poorest return at this stage of a Premier League campaign since the 2016-17 season, when they were eventually relegated.
Hull City and Ipswich Town played out a 2-2 draw, taking Hull's points tally to 11 after nine matches. It is the club's second-best points return at this stage of a top-flight season. Their best start came in 2008-09, when they had accumulated 20 points from their first nine fixtures.
Hull striker Oliver McBurnie also scored his first direct free-kick goal in the Premier League. Before this, Robert Snodgrass had been the last Hull player to score a direct free-kick in the top flight, doing so against Everton in December 2016.
Aston Villa and Fulham shared the points in a 1-1 draw, extending Villa's unbeaten run in the Premier League to five matches. Fulham's equaliser came through an own goal by goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, making him the first Asian goalkeeper in Premier League history to score an own goal.
Aston Villa forward Nicolas Jackson scored six goals across all competitions during October, the highest tally by any Premier League player during the month. He also became the first Villa player since Morgan Rogers in April 2024 to score in three consecutive home league matches.
