Kolkata, 02 November (H.S.): Kolkata: Panihati MLA Ratna Debnath, mother of the victim in the tragic rape and murder case of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. Expressing her frustration over the perceived lack of progress, she suggested that if the CBI is unable to handle the investigation properly, they should leave it.
Furthermore, the MLA stated her intention to approach Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari once again regarding the matter.
In addition to her concerns about the investigation, Ratna Debnath leveled serious allegations regarding ongoing corruption across various medical colleges in the state, including RG Kar. She asserted that despite the recent events, systemic irregularities remain unchecked, and she plans to formally present these grievances to the Chief Minister.
Responding to the MLA's remarks, State Health Minister Shwaradwata Mukherjee clarified the state government's position, emphasizing that the CBI operates independently of the state's jurisdiction. The CBI is not under the control of the state government, the Health Minister stated. He also claimed that he was previously unaware of the specific complaints raised by the Panihati MLA, adding, I did not know about this matter. I will call 'Didibhai' (referring to Ratna Debnath) to understand the context.
The Health Minister further assured that the health department has fulfilled all demands previously put forth by Ratna Debnath and noted that the department has initiated a fresh internal inquiry. Defending the state's proactive approach, he highlighted, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has done everything within his purview. Orders for back-to-back arrests have already been given. While assuring that the MLA's demands for a swift CBI probe and justice will be heard, the minister reiterated the administrative limitation that the central investigative agency is beyond the state's direct control.
