Hooghly, 02 November (H.S.): Potato has become a major concern for farmers and traders alike. Now, truck drivers and owners who have travelled all the way from Punjab carrying potato seeds to Goghat in Hooghly district are facing difficulties, as their vehicles remain stranded outside a cold storage facility for days without being unloaded. The delay has reportedly caused significant financial losses.
The situation has come to light at the Bhikdas Cold Storage premises in Goghat. According to the truck drivers, they transported potato seeds from Punjab to Goghat after covering a long distance, but the consignments are not being unloaded within the expected time. As a result, they are being forced to wait for days.
The drivers said that the prolonged delay is increasing expenses, including vehicle charges and other operational costs. Moreover, with their trucks stuck at the cold storage, they are unable to take up other transportation assignments. Both drivers and truck owners are reportedly suffering financial losses.
Questions are now being raised about the reason behind the delay. Is there a shortage of storage space inside the cold storage, or are there other administrative or management-related issues preventing the trucks from being unloaded?
The affected drivers and owners have demanded an early resolution to the problem. It remains to be seen what steps the cold storage authorities and the administration take to address their grievances.
