New Delhi, 02 November (H.S.): Three rebel legislators of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab — Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, Chetan Singh Jouramajra and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra — joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday.

The three leaders formally joined the BJP at the party’s central headquarters in New Delhi. The induction ceremony was attended by BJP National General Secretary and Punjab in-charge Satish Poonia, Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon and party leader Virendra Sachdeva.

A day earlier, on Sunday, Chetan Singh Jouramajra and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra had resigned from the primary membership of the AAP. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, meanwhile, resigned from his membership of the Punjab Legislative Assembly on Monday before joining the BJP.

Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had been elected from the Amritsar North Assembly constituency and is a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. Chetan Singh Jouramajra represents the Samana constituency and has previously served as a Cabinet minister in Punjab. Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra represents the Sanaur Assembly constituency.

The induction of the three legislators into the BJP comes ahead of the forthcoming Punjab Assembly elections and is being viewed as an organisational and political challenge for the AAP in the state.
