Kolkata, 02 November (H.S.) : Recognizing his investigative excellence and unwavering dedication to duty, Tenzing Bhutia, the In-charge of the Kranti Police Outpost, has been selected for the prestigious 'Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation' for the year 2026. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs officially released the list of awardees on October 31.
A total of eight police officers from West Bengal have been chosen for this national honour this year. Notably, Bhutia is the sole police officer from the Jalpaiguri district to secure a place on this distinguished list.
According to police sources, the accolade recognizes his successful investigation of several high-profile cases and his commitment to effective policing. A defining highlight of his career is the swift resolution of a 2023 gang-rape case in Chamurchi, where he was serving as the Officer-in-Charge. Demonstrating prompt administrative action, Bhutia spearheaded the investigation that led to the immediate arrest of the two prime accused. Following a rigorous trial, a court subsequently sentenced one accused to 25 years and the other to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
Beyond the Chamurchi case, Bhutia's tenure as the Second Officer at the Maynaguri Police Station, where he played a pivotal role in maintaining law and order, was also heavily factored into his selection. His ongoing administrative and policing efforts as the Kranti Outpost In-charge have garnered similar commendation.
Expressing his gratitude over the recognition, Bhutia stated that the prestigious medal would further inspire him to serve the public with even greater dedication in the future. Commending the achievement, Mal Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sudipta Sarkar expressed immense pride, noting that Bhutia's success is a matter of profound honor for the district and will serve as a strong inspiration for other police officers in the force to strive for excellence.
