Thiruvananthapuram, 02 Nov (H.S.):

In a major financial relief for thousands of vehicle owners across the state, the Kerala government has officially launched a comprehensive e-challan amnesty scheme offering a 50 percent discount on all pending traffic violation fines. Under this limited-period relief initiative, motorists can clear their outstanding traffic penalties by paying just half of the original fine amount until the portal closes on January 31.

The special concessions apply directly to all electronic challans issued by both the Kerala Police and the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) for traffic offenses recorded on or before March 31, 2026. Transport department officials clarified that the half-price rebate covers specific violations defined under the Motor Vehicles Act, provided the individual cases have not already been forwarded to judicial court proceedings or legal prosecution processes.

Senior transport officials emphasized that this state initiative primarily aims to clear the massive backlog of unpaid electronic traffic fines pending across Kerala, while simultaneously encouraging citizens to settle their long-overdue cases without facing heavy legal penalties. Vehicle owners can conveniently verify their pending challans and complete the discounted payments online through the designated official state traffic portals.

Authority representatives strongly cautioned motorists that this amnesty concession window will strictly not be extended beyond the announced timeline. Following the cutoff date, both the Motor Vehicles Department and the traffic police will initiate rigorous enforcement drives and legal recovery measures to collect full fine amounts for all violations logged after March 31, 2026, as well as all remaining un-cleared older cases.

Motorists across Kerala are strongly urged to take immediate advantage of this limited-period opportunity to clear their official traffic violation records before the amnesty scheme permanently concludes on January 31, 2027.
