Agartala, 02 November (H.S.): The Border Security Force (BSF) has inaugurated a Pradhan

Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra at Fatikchera in West Tripura to improve

access to affordable medicines for border residents, serving and retired

personnel and their families.

Princee Rani,

Inspector General of BSF Tripura Frontier, inaugurated the facility on Monday

in the presence of senior BSF officials, medical officers from BSF and civil

hospitals, and representatives of border communities.

The Kendra has been established through a tripartite

agreement involving the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India

(PMBI), SWADHIN Trust and the BSF. Located at the entrance of the BSF campus,

the outlet is expected to facilitate access to affordable generic medicines for

residents of neighbouring border villages.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana

(PMBJP), implemented by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, the initiative aims

to reduce healthcare expenses by making quality generic medicines available at

substantially lower prices than comparable branded medicines. According to the

programme, medicines are generally priced 50–90 per cent lower, while Suvidha

Sanitary Napkins are available at Re 1 per pad.

The Fatikchera facility will cater to people requiring

medicines for chronic ailments as well as other essential healthcare products.

The medicines supplied through the scheme undergo prescribed quality testing at

NABL-accredited laboratories and comply with Good Manufacturing Practices

(GMP).

The inauguration is part of BSF Tripura Frontier's broader

Border Outreach Programme, which includes medical and blood donation camps,

sports tournaments, marathons, distribution of educational materials, skill

development initiatives and preparation of local youth for recruitment into

Central Armed Police Forces.

Through these welfare initiatives, the BSF is seeking to

extend its engagement with border communities beyond border security, with a

focus on healthcare access, youth empowerment and socio-economic development, the

statement said.
