Kolkata, 02 November (H.S.): In a robust response to the ongoing protests by the opposition and the 'Cockroach Janta Party' demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a nationwide counter-offensive. As part of its broader 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) campaign, the party orchestrated a massive rally on the streets of Kolkata on Monday.
The formidable march, which commenced at College Street and concluded at Dharmatala, was spearheaded by BJP leader Nitin Nabin. He was prominently joined in the front ranks by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and State BJP President Samik Bhattacharya, with the leaders marching while shouldering the national flag.
Nabin arrived at the Kolkata airport on Monday afternoon, where he was warmly received by CM Adhikari and Bhattacharya. The leaders proceeded directly to College Street, where a large congregation of party workers and supporters had already assembled. Carrying the Tricolour, the mega rally was officially set into motion, with its primary objective stated as registering a strong protest against the alleged 'falsehoods' and 'anarchy' propagated by the opposition factions.
Commenting on the initiative, BJP spokesperson Debjit Sarkar stated that the march was essential to safeguard democracy against the chaos fomented by the opposition, asserting that the public stands firmly with the truth. Adding to the political heat, BJP MLA Arjun Singh leveled serious allegations, claiming that foreign forces are currently funding efforts to destabilize the nation's democratic framework.
However, the political demonstration drew sharp criticism from the Left front. CPI(M) MLA Mustafizur Rahman Rana publicly questioned the rationale behind organizing such a rally in Kolkata. He pointed out that the state remains largely untouched by the heat of the opposition's national protests and argued that organizing such a march holds little justification, especially considering that a new state government was formed just six months ago.
Undeterred by the criticism, Nitin Nabin launched a scathing attack on the entire opposition bloc, including former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The opposition is solely focused on grabbing power, whereas protecting the Constitution and democracy remains our paramount priority, Nabin remarked during the event. Highlighting what he termed as the opposition's hypocrisy, he added that elections were recently held in Tamil Nadu and Kerala following the implementation of the 'SIR' system, where opposition parties secured victories. They raised absolutely no questions regarding the credibility of the SIR system back then, he asserted, questioning their current stance.
