Guwahati, 01 November (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday expressed optimism over the possibility of extending the proposed Delhi-Siliguri bullet train corridor to Guwahati, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw have responded positively to the state's proposal.
In a social media post, Sarma described the bullet train connectivity as a long-cherished dream for Assam and said the positive response from the Centre marked an important step towards realising it. He also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Railway Minister for their favourable response.
Highlighting the potential benefits of the proposed extension, the Chief Minister said travel between Guwahati and Delhi could take less than eight hours once the high-speed rail connectivity becomes a reality.
He said the project could open up significant opportunities for the younger generation, entrepreneurs, business communities and the tourism sector in Assam and the Northeast.
Sarma added that the proposed connectivity would not only reduce travel time but also integrate Assam and the entire Northeast more closely with the country's development trajectory.
Describing it as a reflection of the new India and new Assam under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the Chief Minister said his government was committed to pursuing ambitious development goals and transforming the state's long-held aspirations into reality.--------------
