New Delhi, 01 November (H.S.): The 97th edition of Fit India’s ‘Sunday on Cycle’ initiative was organised at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday, drawing around 1,000 fitness enthusiasts. Held to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week, the event was themed ‘One Week, Seven Actions, One Planet’.
Around 1,000 fitness enthusiasts took part in the programme, which was part of the nationwide ‘Sunday on Cycle’ campaign being conducted simultaneously across the country. Launched in December 2024, the initiative has so far recorded the participation of nearly 3.7 million people across approximately 31,000 locations nationwide. The figures reflect growing awareness of fitness and increasing public participation in physical activities.
Accomplished bodybuilder Deepak Sharma, who attended the event as a special guest, praised the enthusiasm of the participants. He said the energy and passion for fitness on display were remarkable, adding that it was particularly encouraging to see young people embracing the initiative. As responsible citizens, he said, everyone should actively participate in such events and make fitness an integral part of their daily routine.
He further observed that the participation of nearly 3.7 million people in the ‘Sunday on Cycle’ campaign in less than two years demonstrated a growing awareness of the importance of fitness. Describing fitness as true wealth, he urged people to adopt the mantra, ‘Fitness Ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz’ (a dose of fitness for half an hour every day), in their daily lives.
The event also witnessed the participation of several prominent personalities from the fields of fitness, sports, yoga, education and cycling. Among them were Jyoti Bharti, a national-level table tennis player, fitness coach and certified yoga instructor, and Pankhuri Srivastava, a yoga and meditation coach.
The programme began with an anti-drug pledge administered under the leadership of Pankhuri Srivastava. Participants were encouraged to embrace a healthy lifestyle and contribute towards building a drug-free society.
This was followed by a five-kilometre cycle rally along a designated route. Several engaging activities were also organised to ensure participation from people across all age groups. Special attractions included a dedicated yoga corner, light Zumba sessions, a photo booth, and a games and entertainment zone set up by the Raahgiri Foundation.
