New Delhi, 01 November (H.S.): Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday extended their heartfelt greetings to the residents of the national capital on the occasion of Delhi Foundation Day.

In a post on social media platform X, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that from its timeless heritage to its vibrant composite culture, Delhi reflects the spirit of a united India. He called upon people to work together towards building a ‘Viksit Delhi’, where modern development blends harmoniously with a rich cultural legacy.

Extending his greetings on Foundation Day, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said in a post on X that from the glorious heritage of Indraprastha to its emergence as a modern metropolis, Delhi had consistently preserved its historical identity, rich culture and vibrant traditions. The city’s historical monuments, art, cuisine and diverse folk traditions, he said, constitute its distinctive identity.

He expressed hope that Delhi would continue to play a significant role in building a developed India by advancing its historical legacy alongside modern development.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in her post on X, described Delhi as a city with its own distinct fragrance and character. From the glorious saga of Indraprastha to the pride of modern India, she said, Delhi has witnessed the passage of ages, preserved a rich historical legacy and remained a place of immense possibilities for the future.

She said the city’s soil carries the memories of civilisations, while the waters of the Yamuna bear the stories of countless eras. The ramparts of the Red Fort echo the nation’s pride, while Kartavya Path reflects the confidence of an independent India.

The Chief Minister said that Delhi holds a special place in the lives of people from different backgrounds. While some have spent their childhood here and others have taken their first steps towards fulfilling their dreams in the city, many have lived here for generations, while others have arrived from distant places and made it their home. This, she said, is the beauty of Delhi, where everyone proudly and affectionately identifies themselves as a ‘Dilliwala’.

CM Gupta further said that a new chapter was added to the centuries-old journey of the city on November 1, 1956, when Delhi was accorded the status of a Union Territory.

“Our resolve is to preserve Delhi’s centuries-old identity while ensuring that its future is magnificent,” she said, adding that the city’s heritage would be enriched and its development would reach new heights.

The Chief Minister said her government would work to ensure prosperity in every neighbourhood, modern amenities in every household and a better standard of living for every citizen. She asserted that Delhi would be given a magnificent future befitting its glorious past.
