
Bhubaneswar, 09 October (H.S.): The 149th birth anniversary of Utkalamani Pandit Gopabandhu Das was observed at the Odisha Legislative Assembly premises on Friday, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy and other dignitaries paying floral tributes to the legendary social reformer and freedom fighter.
Gopabandhu Das dedicated his life to serving humanity, particularly the underprivileged, homeless and helpless. He also worked to guide the youth towards an ideal path. Through his selfless service to people affected by floods, cyclones, droughts and other disasters, he set an enduring example of compassion, humanitarian values and patriotism.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, MLAs Babu Singh and Chhabi Mallik, former minister Aravinda Dhali, former MLAs Padmacharan Nayak and Priyadarshi Mishra, office-bearers of Utkal Sammilani and senior members of Pujyapuja Sansad attended the programme.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Information and Public Relations Department Hemant Sharma and the department’s Director Sanjay Kumar Biswal were also present. The dignitaries offered floral tributes at Gopabandhu Das’s statue and remembered his contributions to society and the nation.
On the occasion, the Shashwati social and cultural organisation presented patriotic songs. Public Relations Officer Anshuman Sahu coordinated the programme.
