
New Delhi, 09 October (H.S.): The domestic stock market witnessed a strong upward trend during early trading on Friday, with both benchmark indices opening on a firm note. Although the markets came under mild selling pressure shortly after the opening bell, buying activity soon gathered momentum, lifting both the Sensex and the Nifty. By 10 a.m., the Sensex was trading 0.95 per cent higher, while the Nifty had gained 0.98 per cent.
The BSE Sensex opened at 71,776.67, gaining 183.43 points, or 0.26 per cent. Shortly after trading began, mild selling pressure dragged the index down marginally. However, buyers soon returned to the market, triggering a strong recovery and pushing the index higher. Amid continued buying and selling activity, the Sensex was trading at 72,273.71 at 10 a.m., up 680.47 points, or 0.95 per cent.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty opened at 22,314.95, advancing 83.15 points, or 0.37 per cent. However, selling pressure immediately after the opening bell pushed the index into negative territory, with the Nifty slipping to 22,294.75. The benchmark subsequently recovered as buyers stepped in and renewed their purchasing activity. Supported by sustained buying interest, the index moved back into positive territory. By 10 a.m., the Nifty was trading at 22,449.05, up 217.25 points, or 0.98 per cent.
Market participation remained active, with 2,421 stocks trading on the stock exchange at the time. Of these, 1,391 shares were trading in positive territory, while 1,030 were in the red. Among the 30 constituents of the Sensex, 25 were trading higher, supported by buying interest, while five were trading lower under selling pressure. On the Nifty, 35 of the 50 constituent stocks were in positive territory, while the remaining 15 were trading in the red.
Among the major stocks, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HDFC Life Insurance, Max Healthcare, Apollo Hospitals and Infosys were trading with gains ranging from 2.51 per cent to 5.06 per cent as of 10 a.m. In contrast, Bharat Electronics, BSE Ltd., Reliance Industries, Cipla and Adani Enterprises were trading lower, with losses ranging from 0.26 per cent to 1.29 per cent.
In the previous trading session on Wednesday, the Sensex had closed at 71,593.24, declining 1,045.46 points, or 1.44 per cent. The Nifty had also ended the session on a weak note, falling 371.25 points, or 1.64 per cent, to close at 22,231.80.
